The buddies people reach for first

Ordered by how the line is actually rated — eight characters with the warmest write-ups across the whole range.

Made with recycled materials
Luxuriously soft

Deep pile that keeps its hand after the first wash — this is the part children test within a second of meeting a buddy.

Made with recycled materials

Both the outer fabric and the filling start life as recycled fibre, which is the quiet reason the range exists at all.

Embroidered faces

No glued-on plastic eyes or noses. Everything on the face is stitched, so there is nothing to work loose in a cot.

Sits up on its own

A weighted or flat base means a buddy stays where it is put — on a shelf, a windowsill or the corner of a bed.

Super soft, great quality. My niece carries it around everywhere.

I recently purchased this super soft and adorable animal as a gift for my niece's birthday, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! . Softest top, with embroidered ripples down back and corduroy belly. Happy it is upcycled material

I saw this guys and thought yes, let's request him. I was curious about the possible contrast of textures with the material being made from recycled plastic. He is definitely soft and fuzzy. the derpy face makes him even more lovable. The 3 textures of top, ridges, and belly make for a well-rounded sensory experience. Albie the alligator came in a bag,…

Possibly the cutest cupcake plush ever

I absolutely love this little cupcake. There were several plush options available, but the cupcake immediately stood out to me and it is even cuter in person. So Stinkin’ Cute! The Sweetest Little Sushi Squad!

These are SO stinkin’ adorable! I love all four little characters: Smiley Nori, Tobiko, Nigiri, and Saucy Soy Fish. Each one has its own personality, and the different textures make them extra fun. Their little legs are perfect for sitting upright on a shelf, so they’re just as cute for displaying as they are for cuddling. The bento box packaging is such…

What Snuggle Buddies stuffed animals and plush toys actually are

Snuggle Buddies is a range of collectable stuffed animals made by Addo Play, and the short version is this: luxuriously soft plush toys with adorable designs and lovable characters, every one of them made with recycled materials. There are 41 of them in the current line, and we keep all 41 here — the classic teddy bears, the bunnies, the woodland and farm animals, the ocean and pond animals, the jungle characters, and the Yummy Buddies food plush that have quietly become the thing people collect.

What makes this range worth a site of its own is the construction. Every face in the collection is embroidered. There are no plastic eyes, no moulded noses, no hard parts anywhere on any of these stuffed animals, which is why the entire line carries an ages 0+ marking rather than the three-plus you see on most character plush. That single decision is the difference between a soft toy you can hand to a baby and a soft toy you have to keep on a shelf until they are older.

The second decision is weight. Most of the animals have weighted beans in the base so they sit upright on their own — on a nursery shelf, on a windowsill, at the end of a cot — instead of folding over the moment a child lets go. The sea animals do it differently, using a flat-bottom design with nothing loose inside at all. Both approaches work; they just suit different ages, and we flag which is which on every card.

  • Embroidered faces on every plush toy — no plastic eyes, nothing hard for a baby to find.
  • Weighted beans in the base of the animals, so a buddy sits up on its own.
  • Flat-bottom build with nothing loose inside on the ocean and pond animals.
  • Super soft recycled fur that keeps its hand after a wash.
  • Ages 0+ across the whole collection, which is rare for character plush.

How we have organised the collection

We have split the range into six shelves, because 41 plush toys in one grid helps nobody. Teddy Bears & Bunnies holds the five classic shapes most people arrive looking for. Woodland & Farm Animals is the biggest group at nine characters and the one that turns a single purchase into a collection. Ocean & Pond Animals covers the six water characters with their different internal build. Jungle & Make-Believe holds the sloth, the parrot, the lion, the dinosaur and the dragon.

Then there are the Yummy Buddies. Fourteen food plush toys as singles — a cupcake, a pizza slice, a doughnut, a croissant, a chili pepper, a bowl of miso ramen — plus two four-piece boxed sets, the Cheese Board and the Sushi Bento Box. Too cute to eat, perfect to hug, as the brand puts it. They are also the cheapest way into the range, with most singles at $19.99 against around $29.99 for an animal.

Every shelf page carries the full list for that group with current prices, the size in inches, whether the toy uses weighted beans or a flat base, and what the character's own tag says about them. The character stories are not filler — they are printed on the swing tag and children read them, so we have kept them.

  • Teddy Bears & Bunnies — five classic shapes, the ones little hands reach for first.
  • Woodland & Farm Animals — nine characters, the shelf that turns one toy into a collection.
  • Ocean & Pond Animals — six water friends with the flat-bottom build.
  • Jungle & Make-Believe — a sloth, a parrot, a lion, a dinosaur and a dragon.
  • Yummy Buddies — fourteen food plush toys and two four-piece boxed sets.

Choosing a stuffed animal for a baby

For a newborn or a baby still mouthing everything, we would steer you toward the water animals. Winston Whale has a corduroy belly, Tommy Turtle has a fluffy sea-green shell that is a different pile from the rest of his body, and both use a flat-bottom build with nothing loose inside. Texture contrast is what very small hands actually explore, and a uniformly furry bear gives them less to work with.

For a first proper comfort toy — the one that gets named and carried — the bears and bunnies are the right call. Benji Bear at 10 x 8 x 5 inches tucks under an arm. Bella Bunny and Bridget Bunny are near-cubic at 9 x 9 x 9 inches and sit squarely in a lap. All three hold their shape, which matters more than it sounds when a child is trying to stand a plush toy up on a shelf by themselves.

If you are buying for travel, size is the whole decision. Oakley Otter at 9 x 5 x 4 inches is the smallest animal in the range and genuinely goes in a coat pocket. Dominic Duck at 10 x 6 x 6 inches is the narrowest of the farm animals. At the other end, Dylan Dinosaur is thirteen inches tall and Fabian Fox is 10 x 10 x 11 inches — wonderful on a bedroom floor, hopeless in a changing bag.

  • For a newborn baby: a water animal, for the texture contrast little fingers go looking for.
  • For a first comfort toy: a teddy bear or a bunny, the ones that get named and loved.
  • For travel: Oakley Otter or Dominic Duck, small enough for a coat pocket.
  • For a bedroom floor: Dylan Dinosaur or Fabian Fox, the big cuddle shapes.

What recycled materials mean here

Every Snuggle Buddy is made with recycled materials, and the brand is specific about it rather than vague — the fill, the fabric and in the Yummy Buddies even the embroidered features. In practice this means the plush fur is spun from recovered polyester rather than virgin fibre, and it does not feel like a compromise. These are among the softest stuffed animals we have had through our hands, recycled or not.

Care is simple and the same across the whole collection. Hand-wash, or send the toy through a garment bag on a delicate cold-water cycle. Do not tumble dry — that is the one instruction that matters, because heat is what mats plush fur permanently. Air-dry away from a radiator and brush the pile out with your fingers while it is still slightly damp.

Because there are no hard parts, there is nothing to work loose in a wash and nothing to crack. That is the practical upside of the embroidered-features decision: a Snuggle Buddy that has been loved hard for two years and washed a dozen times still looks like itself.

  • Hand-wash, or a garment bag on a cold delicate cycle.
  • Never tumble dry — heat is what mats soft plush fur for good.
  • Air-dry away from a radiator, then brush the pile out while it is damp.
  • Nothing to work loose, because nothing on the toy is glued or moulded.

Prices, sizes and what to expect

The animals sit at $29.99 for most of the range, rising to $31.99 for the cream Bridget Bunny and $33.99 for Dottie Dog, where the two-tone fur and floppy ear construction account for the difference. The Yummy Buddies singles start at $19.99, with the pizza and cheese wedge a little above that and the Birthday Cake at $34.99 as the largest single in the line. The two four-piece sets are $44.99, which works out cheaper per piece than buying four singles.

Sizes run from a 6 x 6 x 6 inch octopus to a thirteen-inch dinosaur. Most of the animals land between nine and eleven inches in their longest dimension, which is deliberately a lap-and-shelf size rather than a giant plush. If you have been looking at four-foot cuddle bears elsewhere, this is a different category of toy — one built to be carried every day rather than displayed.

Prices on every card come straight from the live listing, so what you see here is what the toy costs right now. Stock on the newer Yummy Buddies moves faster than the animals, and the two sets go out of stock around the holidays most years.

Snuggly, soft and built for the end of the day

Most of what we hear back has nothing to do with specifications. A little one picks a buddy, carries it to the sofa, and that is the toy for the next two years. Kids do not choose a stuffed animal on the strength of its fill; they choose the one that feels right under a chin at nine at night, and super soft fur plus a body that holds its shape is the whole of that decision.

That is also why we keep talking about bedtime. A snuggly plush toy that sits calmly at the end of a cot does a different job from a toy that lives in the toy box — it is the thing a child cuddles while the room goes quiet, the friend that goes into the hospital bag, the one that comes back out when big feelings arrive and nobody has the words yet. Parents tell us a buddy has absorbed more tears than they expected.

Love is the part we cannot design for, but safety is. Nothing on these animals is glued, moulded or sewn on as a separate hard piece, so there is no eye to pull free at two in the morning. Everything else — the adorable face, the comfort of a weighted base, the softness that survives a wash — is there to make that attachment easy. Pick the buddy your child reaches for, and the rest looks after itself.

  • Soft enough for a cheek, firm enough to sit up on a shelf.
  • Nothing hard on the face, so a baby can sleep beside one safely once you are ready.
  • Washes without losing its shape, which matters by month three.
  • Big feelings, long nights and car journeys — this is what a comfort toy is for.

Our side of the blanket

We started this site because we kept buying these for other people's children and could never find a page that told us the one thing we needed to know: how big is it, and does it sit up on its own?

So that is what we have built. All 41 Snuggle Buddies in the current range, sorted into six shelves, every one with its real size in inches, its real price, how it is weighted, and what its own swing tag says about the character. We have handled the whole collection. Where we have a preference we say so, and where two toys are nearly identical we say that too.

Questions that reach the fort

What are Snuggle Buddies?

Snuggle Buddies is a collectable range of soft plush toys and stuffed animals made by Addo Play. Every character has an embroidered face, a soft recycled-material body with no hard plastic parts, and a weighted or flat base that lets it sit upright on its own. The line covers classic teddy bears and bunnies, woodland, farm, ocean and jungle animals, and the Yummy Buddies food plush.

Are Snuggle Buddies suitable for babies?

Yes. The whole range is marked ages 0+, which is possible because there are no plastic eyes, no moulded noses and no hard components anywhere. For a baby still exploring with their hands we would point you at Winston Whale or Tommy Turtle first, because the corduroy belly and the textured shell give small fingers more to investigate than plain fur.

Can a stuffed animal go in the cot with a baby?

Safe-sleep guidance in the United States is that cots should be empty for the first year — no toys, pillows or loose bedding. A Snuggle Buddy is a daytime companion for that first year, and moves into the cot later when your paediatrician says it is fine. Nothing about the toy changes that advice.

How do I wash a Snuggle Buddies plush toy?

Hand-wash, or use a garment bag on a delicate cold-water cycle. Do not tumble dry under any circumstances — heat permanently mats plush fur, and no amount of brushing brings it back. Air-dry away from direct heat and comb the pile through with your fingers while it is still damp.

What is the difference between weighted beans and a flat base?

Most of the land animals have weighted beans sewn into the base, which holds them upright and gives them a satisfying heft. The sea animals — Winston Whale, Tommy Turtle, Olivia Octopus and Albie Alligator — have nothing loose inside at all and stay up through the shape of the body alone. Flat-base toys are lighter for their size and easier for a small child to lift.

What are Yummy Buddies?

Yummy Buddies are the food-shaped plush toys in the Snuggle Buddies collection — a cupcake, a pizza slice, a bowl of miso ramen, a croissant, a baked potato and ten more, plus two four-piece boxed sets. Same recycled materials and embroidered-only features as the animals, usually at a lower price, and bought by adults about as often as by children.

Which Snuggle Buddy makes the best gift?

For a new baby, Florence Fawn or Winston Whale. For a child choosing for themselves, Dottie Dog wins more often than anything else we stock. For an adult, a Yummy Buddy — the croissant and the miso ramen are the two that land best — or one of the four-piece sets if you want something that arrives already looking like a present.
